“Everyone Consumed Alcohol But Still Maligned My Name” – Praveen Kumar Says Senior India Player Ruined His Reputation

Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar, in a recent interview, poured his heart out about his International career and life after retirement. He opened up about not getting his dues after retirement and also about how misinformation about his alcohol addiction hampered his reputation.

Praveen Kumar was known for his swing bowling. He made his India debut in 2007 and played his last International match in 2012. After that, he played in the Indian Premier League and also for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. In 2018, he announced his retirement from all forms of the game. Post-retirement, he made a few appearances in tournaments like Legends League Cricket.

In a recent interview with ‘The Lallantop’, Praveen Kumar opened up on his life after retirement. He said,

“In 2018, I had expected that one of the IPL franchises would sign me as a bowling coach. Forget that; even my own Uttar Pradesh team did not call me to work with the Ranji team. The only reason they had was that I used to drink alcohol. But did I drink on the ground or open the bottle in the dressing room?”

Everybody knows who ruined my image: Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar further accused a senior India player, who he did not name of spreading negativity around him, which ruined his reputation. He expressed everyone drinks alcohol, but only his name was maligned by the player. Praveen Kumar in an interview with Lallantop said,

“When I joined the Indian team, a few senior players asked me to stop drinking and avoid a few other things. However, everyone consumed alcohol but still maligned my name. While many senior players treated us youngsters very well, there was someone who spread negativity around my name. I don’t want to name that person on camera, but everybody knows who ruined my image.”
