Jasprit Bumrah is considered to be one of the leading fast bowlers in the world today. When he burst on the scene during IPL with his awkward bowling action, nobody knew he will play for India. But as time went by he became a consistent performer in all formats. The 26-year-old has so far picked 68 Test, 104 ODI and 59 T20I wickets respectively.
He recently spoke about his unique bowling action on an ICC podcast to Shaun Pollock and Ian Bishop. He revealed that since his early playing days he was never coached a lot. Bumrah also added that never cared about other people’s opinions who asked him to change his action.
Jasprit Bumrah gives insights on bowling action
“Basically I have never been coached a lot. No professional coaching or camps. Till date, everything is self-taught, everything, through TV, videos. There is no proper reason for my bowling action. I have never really listened to people who told that action needs to be changed, kept on developing my strength and self-belief,” said Bumrah.
The speedster from Gujarat also talked about his short run-up with which he generates rapid pace. Jasprit Bumrah explained that lack of space in his backyard could have been the reason behind his unusual short run-up.
“My run-up is short because of playing in my backyard where we didn’t have much space. So this run-up was the longest that you could have had, maybe this could be the reason. I have tried longer run-ups and nothing changes, speed still is the same so why to run so much,” added Bumrah.
Jasprit Bumrah last played an international match earlier this year in New Zealand. He was all set to represent defending champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL. But unfortunately, the 13th edition of IPL was postponed during to the COVID-19 pandemic.
