Team India’s middle-order batter Deepak Hooda failed to make the most of his opportunity in the third ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday, November 30. Hooda got out for only 12 off 25 balls in a pressure situation for the team as well.

Notably, the all-rounder looked to free his arms and pull a delivery by Tim Southee but he ended up giving it to the wicketkeeper. While he wasn’t adjudged out by the on-field umpire, New Zealand reviewed the decision and it went for them as well.

However, after the dismissal, fans on Twitter were frustrated to see Deepak Hooda not scoring once again. He came in place of Sanju Samson for his all-round ability but failed again as well.

One fan tweeted: “#Hooda another Vijay Shankar in the making. Can’t bat can’t bowl, sole purpose is to keep place of India seniors in place. Deny really good players a chance. He can’t bat if the ball moves an inch. For a moment [Daryl] Mitchell looked like [Glenn] McGrath!

Here is how Twitterati reacted to the dismissal of Deepak Hooda:

Meanwhile, former batter Wasim Jaffer said earlier that it would be unfair if India drop Deepak Hooda for Sanju Samson for the third and final ODI against New Zealand. Notably, the Indian team brought in Deepak Hooda for the second ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton before the game was called off due to rain after around 13 overs as well.

“They’ll back the same XI that played in the second ODI. It will be unfair on Deepak Hooda as well if he is left out as he didn’t get an opportunity to do anything. To leave him out and bring in, probably, Sanju again will be unfair,” Wasim Jaffer was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo. “India have breached a lot of fortresses in the recent past. So, I am expecting them to do that again. I would suggest them to win the toss, bowl first and then chase the target down.”
