Rohit Sharma, who is captain of India explained that he had not yet understood about his retirement from T20I match format. This was announced by Rohit, after a nail biting win over South Africa during the T20 World Cup Final played back in June this year.

As for Rohit, it was the best way to say goodbye from T20 World Cup. Even he had shared some of his thoughts on T20 format which made it so special for him since he was the winner of the first T20 World Cup ever held.

During a press conference prior to be played against Sri Lanka in the first ODI, Rohit Sharma expressed his views regarding his retirement from international T20 cricket (through RevSportzGlobal):

“At the moment, the T20I retirement feeling is like I have been rested for a series.”

Rohit spoke about Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, which India won 3-0. He didn’t want to go too far ahead and saw that Suryakumar needed time to be in his new position. In this context, Rohit said:

“Early days for Surya as T20I captain. Good start, but let him do the job a bit more.”

On October 2023, Suryakumar and the rest of the Indian T20I team got congratulations from Rohit Sharma in an Instagram post where he uploaded a photo of their posing with the trophy after they beat Sri Lanka 3-0.

Rohit Sharma expresses his opinion on Anshuman Gaekwad’s passing

Anshuman Gaekwad, once an opening batsman for India succumbed to death due to a prolonged battle with cancer and Rohit shared his feelings about this incident. He recalled some instances when he had discussions with the deceased cricketer and stated that:

“Utterly heartbroken to hear about Anshuman Gaekwad’s passing. I was fortunate to have had a few opportunities to speak with him in the past.”

On Friday, August 2nd, the first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka will take place in Colombo.
