The famous Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi is all set to get renamed after the Delhi and District Cricket Association on Tuesday decided to change the name to Arun Jaitley Stadium in memory of the former president who passed away just last Saturday. As per reports, the renaming of the stadium will be done on 12th September. Meanwhile, a particular stand in the stadium will also be renamed as the Virat Kohli stand.
However despite the stadium getting renamed it will be known worldwide as the Feroz Shah Stadium. It remains the only stadium which has been renamed by the DDCA. Meanwhile, the DDCA President Rajat Sharma praised Arun Jaitley and the encouragement he gave to players like Sehwag, Gambhir, Pant, Ashish Nehra and many others.
“It was Arun Jaitley”s support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud.” It was during his tenure, Jaitley played a massive role in renovating the stadium into a world-class ground. The capacity was also increased while the dressing room facilities were improved substantially.

Meanwhile, the function where the stadium will be renamed will be attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. The function will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is currently the 2nd oldest stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was established back in 1883. The capacity is well over 40,000.
Till date, the stadium has hosted a total of 34 Tests, 25 ODI’s and 5 ODI’s. The stadium has also been the home ground for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
