India’s U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand on Friday announced his retirement from India cricket. He represented Delhi and later Uttarakhand in the Indian domestic cricket circuit.
Unmukt led India to a U19 World Cup win in the year 2012. He has played in 48 first-class matches, scoring 2690 runs at an average of 35.39, including seven centuries and fourteen fifties. In the Indian Premier League, Unmukt Chand played for the Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians.

Family Background
Unmukt Chand was born on March 26, 1993, in New Delhi, India. He comes from a teaching background. Both his parents, Bharat Chand Thakur and Rajeshwari Chand are teachers.
Early days as a cricketer
Unmukt Chand slammed tons of runs playing age-group cricket in Delhi. He was rewarded with a place in Delhi’s U19 team. The right-hander scored 499 runs during his first stint. He was soon included in Delhi’s senior team. In the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy season, Unmukt scored 151 runs on a challenging wicket against the Railways. He scored 400 runs for Delhi in five Ranji matches.Â

Leading India to the U19 World Cup win
Unmukt Chand was the skipper of the Indian team in the 2012 U19 World Cup. He was the leading run-scorer that year, scoring 246 runs in six matches at an average of 49.20. His 130-ball 111 run knock against Australia in the finals, was the highlight of the world cup. India won the match by six wickets to clinch the U19 World Champions title.
The Sky is the limit
In the year 2013, Unmukt Chand released his first book titled “The Sky is the limit”. The book was based on Unmukt Chand’s journey as a cricketer to a U19 world cup winning captain. It was launched in the presence of former India cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sanjay Manjrekar.

Honours and Awards
For the 2011-2012 season, Unmukt Chand was awarded the Ceat Indian Youngster of the year award by former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. He also won the Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year for 2011–12.
