Former England captain Michael Vaughan has criticised the ICC for not penalising India for slow over-rates during the third Test at Lord’s. In a post on his official X account, Vaughan argued it was unfair to sanction only one team. As per the ICC’s official statement, England were fined 10% of their match fee following their 22-run victory at Lord’s.
They were also docked two World Test Championship (WTC) points, bringing their total down to 22 out of a possible 36 and lowering their point percentage from 66.67% to 61.11%. Sharing his views on X, Vaughan wrote:
“Let’s be honest both teams over rates at Lords were very very poor .. How only 1 team has been reprimanded is beyond me.”

England skipper Ben Stokes admitted to the offence and accepted the penalty handed down by match referee Richie Richardson, making a formal hearing unnecessary.
Team India Leader Blames Crawley For Day 3 Time-Wasting Tactics
Indian captain Shubman Gill drew significant attention during the final moments of Day 3 in the Lord’s Test. Emotions ran high when Zak Crawley stepped away from the last ball of the day, claiming a hand injury and removing his gloves. Gill reacted angrily, reportedly using strong language, as several Indian players confronted the English openers.
The tension carried into Day 4, highlighted by Mohammed Siraj’s fiery send-off to Ben Duckett after dismissing him for 12. Despite the intensity, England players later consoled Siraj following his unfortunate dismissal, as the hosts edged to a tight 22-run victory and took a 2-1 lead in the series.
Despite resilient efforts from India’s lower order, England’s bowlers secured the victory with under an hour remaining on the final day. The fourth Test is scheduled to commence on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester, where both sides will aim to gain a decisive advantage in the closely fought series.
