Former Australian Batsman and Indian Coach Greg Chappell congratulated Irfan Pathan on having a tremendous career after the latter decided to call it a day on Sunday.
Greg Chappell recollected of his not so good days with the Indian Cricket Team as head coach. Greg Chappell was appointed as the coach of the Indian team after John Wright had stepped down in 2005.
The former Australian batsman was also held accountable for Pathan”s decline in international cricket. Irfan Pathan who was once labelled as India”s shining knight in the armor, disappeared before he could be the shining star in the sky.
Irfan Pathan had declined the fact that Greg Chappell was the reason behind his downfall.
Greg Chappell said good things about the Indian All-Rounder said he was one heck of a player and was always selfless and played whatever role he was given for the team.
“Irfan was happy to play whatever role the team required. He was both courageous and selfless,” Chappell was as quoted by the Times of India.
“Irfan proved that he was a very capable all-rounder. Apart from what he did in limited-overs cricket, he very nearly scored a Test century (93 vs Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi). His swing bowling was very good, with the highlight for me being his hat trick in the first over of a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi,” he further added.
Irfan Pathan made his debut for India against Australia in 2003 against Australia in the classic Adelaide test where India defeated the mighty Australians to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Irfan Pathan had also scored a century in test match against Pakistan in the famous Bangalore test where Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly had stitched a partnership when India where reduced for 60/4.
Irfan Pathan had some memorable games for India has he played to his full potential whenever given the opportunity and was also the Man of the Math in the finals of the inaugural World T20 where he took 3/16 in his allotted 4 overs.
