Shahid Afridi tweeted, “I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately, I’m COVID positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah”.
Afridi had been constantly urging people to stay safe and their homes on social media. During May he even bought a cricket bat which was auctioned by Bangladesh player Mushfiqur Rahim to raise funds against COVID-19. Afridi on behalf of his foundation decided to by the bat for $20,000.
The ICC tweeted about this and wrote, “Mushfiqur Rahim has found a buyer! Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has joined the good cause, picking up the bat on behalf of his charity foundation”.
Meanwhile, Afridi confirmed this news, “Cricket is to bind. In the divisive world of today, we must look forward to better tomorrow; it’s always up to us to take 1st step. @SAFoundationN believes human suffering & empathy is beyond borders. Hope this small token will help building bigger bridges.#DonateKaroNa #HopeNotOut”.
Afridi is now the third Pakistani cricketer who has been tested COVID-19 positive. Earlier former cricketers Taufeeq Umar and Zafar Sarfaraz have already been affected by the deadly virus.
