Former protea spinner Johan Botha has been appointed as the head coach of Guyana Amazon Warriors for this edition of Caribbean Premier League. Rayon Griffith, the team manager of Windies A squad has been named his assistant.
Botha, who has a lot of experience in the shorter format of the game picked over 126 wickets across three formats for the Proteas. He also represented Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League earlier.
Speaking on the same, the team manager Omar Khan said “The management of the franchise puts in the continuous effort to do things differently with the aim of winning the title. After getting so close over the years we are delighted to have Johan and Rayon at the helm of our coaching staff this year. They are both very professional and are very much involved in cricket coaching and development and are expected to bring new ideas and initiatives to the team set-up,” he added.
It is to be noted that Warriors haven”t won any CPL title and it will be interesting how Botha can add flavour to the squad with his presence.
Botha has a rich T20 experience as he represented Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2015 edition of CPL. On his appointment, an excited Botha said: “I really enjoyed my time with the CPL as a player, and I can”t wait to get underway as a coach.”
The sixth edition of CPL will be played from 8th of August till 16th September. 34 matches are scheduled to be played between six teams.
