Scotland, UAE, Netherlands and Nepal have been added to the ICC ODI rankings table summing up the count to 16 countries. The ICC announced the inclusion of the four nations yesterday.
It is to be noted that Netherlands regained their ODI status after winning an ODI championship league last year which included 13 nations. Scotland, UAE and Nepal finished as the leading associates in the ICC qualifiers held a couple of months back.
Scotland is now placed behind Ireland at 13th position with 28 points while UAE is at the 14th spot. The Netherlands are Nepal will be able to feature in the points table after playing four more games.
In a press release ICC said that these rankings will not affect the 12 member rankings in the test format. Teams earn points from each match they play against oppositions with an ODI rating. Points and matches played between 1 May 2015 and 30 April 2017 will be weighted at 50 percent, whereas matches played after 1 May 2017 will be weighted at 100 per cent.
The initial rankings for the four new teams are based on all ODIs played since May 2015 by Scotland and the UAE against Full Members and against each other; Non-ODIs played by the Netherlands and Nepal against Full Members, Scotland and the UAE as part of the ICC World Cup Qualifying tournament 2018
Nepal will make their debut in the ODI format of the game against the Netherlands in the month of August, while Scotland will be playing for England in an only ODI on June 10th. However, these nations will not be a part of the ICC Cricket world cup 2019 as it will feature only 10 teams (Windies and Afghanistan are the 9th and 10th teams respectively).
