Following Team’s India semi-final exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup last month, several questions have been raised about the leadership of the team. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels Hardik Pandya and Prithvi Shaw could be the future captaincy candidates for Team India. Hardik already has emerged as a strong option following his heroics in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The all-rounder led the Gujarat Titans to an IPL championship win in their debut season. He also led Team India earlier this year in T20Is against Ireland and also in New Zealand recently. Team India won both the T20I series, under his leadership. Hardik Pandya is touted as the possible successor of Rohit Sharma in the T20 format.
Speaking at an event organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi on Sunday, Gautam Gambhir said as quoted by Espncricnifo, ”
“Hardik Pandya obviously is in line. But that’s going to be unfortunate for Rohit because I think judging his captaincy in only one ICC event is not the right way to probably judge him.”

Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir further picked Prithvi Shaw as a future captaincy candidate for Team India. Shaw hasn’t played an international match for more than a year. He last played a T20I against Sri Lanka in July 2021. However, the opener has been in terrific form in domestic cricket. He was the second-leading run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 332 runs in 10 matches.
