"Getting married soon?": Shubman Gill’s Awkward Reaction to Morrison's Wedding Bells Question

When cricket meets entertainment, unexpected things are bound to happen. That’s exactly what played out ahead of the IPL 2025 showdown between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. Shubman Gill, GT’s young and stylish skipper, found himself in an awkward spot thanks to a cheeky question from commentator Danny Morrison.

The Incident That Caught Everyone Off Guard

As the teams lined up for the toss and the pre-match chatter unfolded, Danny Morrison threw a curveball with a personal question. With a grin, he asked:  “You’re looking good, wedding bells around the corner? Getting married soon?” The lighthearted dig, though meant as a joke, instantly changed the mood on screen.

Shubman Gill’s Nervous Response

Shubman, known for his composed demeanor, looked visibly uncomfortable. He laughed nervously, shifted his posture, and managed to brush it off with a simple, “No, nothing like that.” The moment was brief, but it was enough to spark a wave of reactions across social media.

Shubman Gill’s Form in IPL 2025

Despite the off-field awkwardness, Gill has been rock solid on the field. He has scored 215 runs in seven games, averaging 35.83 with a strike rate of 149.30. Two fifties and a top score of 61 not out show that he’s in decent touch.

As captain, he’s shown poise beyond his years. Leading a team packed with young guns and T20 specialists, Gill has tactfully balanced his batting with leadership duties. He’s become a reliable face for the franchise, both with the bat and at the toss.

GT are flying high. After beating Delhi Capitals by seven wickets, they now sit comfortably at the top of the table with 10 points from 7 matches and a net run rate of +0.984.

Match Preview – GT vs KKR

KKR made some bold changes: Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Moeen Ali were brought in, while Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje made way. Youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi was held back as the impact player. Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first, citing pitch dryness and chasing conditions. Gill, on the other hand, seemed confident, stating, “Don’t think there will be any dew. It should be a good game.”

“It is a chasing ground. We spoke after the last game. The players are working very hard. There is a motivation to go up the ladder. I am positive about all players. Not too worried about middle-order,” said Rahane after winning the toss.

GT skipper Shubman Gill said, “Don’t think there will be any dew. So it should be a good game. The way we have been bowling has been great. We have been contributing with wickets. The skill set that he (Rashid Khan, GT vice-captain) brings with his bowling has been great.”
