[WATCH]- Shubman Gill Engages In Heated Exchange With Umpires In GT vs DC IPL 2025 Clash

Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill found himself in a tense exchange with on-field umpires Akshay Totre and Keyur Kelkar just before the final over of the first innings in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals. The disagreement appeared to arise due to GT’s slow over-rate at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

As a result, the team was penalized with an additional fielder required inside the circle. Despite Gill’s protests, the decision stood firm. The first innings was riddled with interruptions, largely due to the intense afternoon heat, which visibly affected the players.

Both Ishant Sharma and Axar Patel needed on-field medical attention, while GT relied heavily on pace, bowling 15 overs with seamers. Visibly frustrated, Gill approached the umpires and was seen expressing his discontent in a heated manner.

The officials attempted to clarify the situation, while GT head coach Ashish Nehra, equally agitated, signaled for Sherfane Rutherford to replace Ishant Sharma as an impact substitute. The confrontation between Gill and the umpires carried on as the match progressed.

Sai Kishore, in his first over of the match, gave away nine runs and claimed the wicket of Ashutosh Sharma. Delhi Capitals wrapped up their innings at 203 for 8 in 20 overs, with four of their batters getting out after scoring in the 30s.

Shubman Gill had a similar dispute with umpires during GT’s away game vs RR in IPL 2024

During his debut season as captain in IPL 2024, GT skipper Shubman Gill was fined twice for slow over-rate violations. He also had a heated exchange with the umpires during an away match against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Gill grew visibly upset when the third umpire reversed a decision on a wide review. On-field umpire Vinod Seshan had to step in to calm him down before Gill reluctantly resumed his position on the field.
