Rohit Sharma has been one of the most prolific openers produced by the Indian side. After his promotion to this position by Dhoni in 2013 ICC Champions trophy, he has exhibited his brilliance in limited overs. In fact, all his three double centuries came in this period and his current ODI ranking (number 2) is a reflection of the same.
He was also fortunate to get back to the test side as the selectors gave him a chance to prove his mettle. Getting a praise from an opponent isn”t an easy task. Glenn Maxwell who shared a dressing room with Rohit in the cash-rich league had a bundle of praises for him ahead of the series against Australia.
In a recent interview to Cricket Australia”s official channel, Glenn Maxwell said “His effortless hitting; and he seems to have a lot more time than other players. He makes it look so easy and I suppose that”s the joy of watching him. The game looks easy when he is out there batting and he is able to hit the ball wherever he likes.”
Glenn Maxwell further added that” He is good against pace and spin and he hits the ball miles when he wants to.”He”s quite relaxed and chilled and laid back. He doesn”t let things phase him, that”s for sure. Most of the times I have had to deal with him, he”s been so chilled out and I suppose that”s one of his strengths especially when he is facing any bowlers, he just seems to have endless amounts of time and not a care in the world almost.”
It is to be noted that Rohit scored a truckload of runs in the Australian series (2016) when he scored a couple of centuries and a 99. Though India lost the series 4-1, his knocks earned him the Man of the series award. Rohit now has 21 centuries to his bag and he is really hungry for more. Can Rohit continue his dominance? Only time will tell.
