Rohit Sharma was recently appointed as India’s all-format captain after Virat Kohli relinquished his duties from the T20Is and Test format. However, 11 years back, things were a lot different for a young Rohit, who missed out on the 2011 World Cup squad.

A middle-order batsman back then, Rohit was part of the squad that toured South Africa before the ICC event. He was in the rainbow nation when the BCCI named the squad for the event. It was a heartbreaking moment for Rohit back then.

Speaking to India batter Jemimah Rodrigues, Rohit Sharma has revealed that he had no one to talk to in SA after missing out on the WC squad.

“It is very hard. Honestly, it’s not easy because World Cup is something that you always dream of playing and being part of the World Cup. And plus, contributing for the team’s success. I still remember I was in South Africa at that point and we were playing the series when we got the news. I had no one to talk to about this. At that point, I was just in my room sitting and thinking about what went wrong and what I could have done better and all of that,” Rohit said.

Two years later, Rohit Sharma sealed his berth in India’s limited-overs cricketer MS Dhoni promoted him to open the innings during the ODI series against England in 2013. There has been no looking back for Rohit since then and he continues to face the new ball.

Meanwhile, Rohit is currently leading Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2022. The five-time IPL champion have got off to the worst possible start, losing the first two games.

“These finger injuries can be tricky” – Rohit Sharma on Suryakumar Yadav

Meanwhile, the Mumbai franchise has badly missed their star batter Suryakumar in the first two matches. He suffered an injury during the limited-overs series against West Indies and had missed a couple of games.

Although he has joined the Mumbai squad, Rohit Sharma revealed that they want to give Suryakumar Yadav the required time to recover fully.

“He (Suryakumar) is a key player for us. Once he is fit he will come straight back. These finger injuries can be tricky and we want to give him time,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

MI will play their next game of IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 6.
