Hanuma Vihari has been scoring big consistently in domestic cricket when he landed with a chance in the Indian team for their tour of England. However, it required a lot of sacrifices and hard work from his mother to help his son attain this level and Vihari is making it count.
Only a nine Tests veteran, the cricketer from Andhra has earned praise from all quarters for his grit and determination. Although he averages a touch over 36 in the 16 innings including a century and four fifties, Hanuma Vihari has shown the abilities that he can bat anywhere. After making his debut in England in the middle-order, he was forced to open in Australia but the sturdy cricketer didn’t shy away from the challenge and did an exceptional job.

Born in a humble family in Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, the local people believed that Vihari will play for India since his childhood. But things started to change after his father’s demise at the age of 12. But Hanuma Vihari’s mother, whom he calls the bravest person, didn’t lose hope.
In a recent candid chat with Cricbuzz, Vijaylakshmi recollected the old days saying that she felt it was her responsibility to back her son. Hanuma Vihari had gone through a slump in the U13 cricket and this is where she understood that her son needed more time to practice and get better and built a cricket pitch for him from the money she got from her husband’s company.

“I received a lump sum from my husband’s company as compensation after he died. Around that time, Hanuma had just played U-13 cricket and hadn’t performed well. I knew that he needed more time to practice than he was getting at nets. So, I decided to use the lump sum to build a cricket pitch for him.
The next time he played at the U-13 state level, he was the highest run-getter in the tournament. That’s when I knew my effort had paid off,” Hanuma Vihari’s mother said.
