The opening game of Australia’s tour of India took place on September 20 in Mohali. Australia bravely responded to India’s gigantic score of 208, chasing down the target with four balls to spare. Indian pacers looked clueless and didn’t have any answers.
During the chase, a strange incident took place. Glenn Maxwell was deceived by Umesh Yadav. The ball went straight to the wicketkeeper’s hands. Rohit Sharma made a confused appeal for a caught behind and gestured that he had heard something.
Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik was unmoved and suggested against a DRS review. A dubious Rohit trusted his guts and went for the review. The ultra edge showed a spike as the ball passed the bat and the decision was overturned.

However, post the dismissal, an animated Rohit was seen grabbing Karthik by his neck and had a word or two to say to the keeper. The keeper was, however, seen smiling. The video went viral within minutes and people started making assumptions and interpretations of their own.
Kabhi kabhi peeche tak awaz jati nah – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav revealed what actually happened on the field during the incident. Speaking at a press conference, he said that both Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have known and played with each other for several years. So, whatever happened was their personal, healthy banter and nothing more.
“Rahi baat wo DRS ki toh kabhi kabhi peeche tak awaz jati nahi hai aur left and right mein acche se awaz ati hai edge ki aur unka wo alag hi banter hai, itne saalo se jante hai ek dusre ko aur ek saath itna khela hua hai toh itna toh hasi mazak thoda banta hai,” he said.
Despite Umesh Yadav’s successive wickets, India lost momentum in the death overs. India leaked 57 runs in the last four overs. Rohit and co. still have 2 more matches for redemption in this series and five in total before the ICC T20 World Cup begins. The time is now to pull up the socks and get back on track.
