“Having Competed In 6 World Cups And Winning The Last One, I Understand The Experience Well”- Tendulkar Writes To Virat And Rohit

Sachin Tendulkar conveyed an exceptional message on Instagram for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma following the duo declared their retirement from T20I cricket on Saturday, June 29. The experienced batsmen retired from the shortest format after triumphing the 2024 T20 World Cup final on the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

As stated his message, Tendulkar lauded Kohli as a ‘authentic champion’ of the sport. He mentioned how the Delhi batter had strived in the 2024 T20 World Cup but rose to the occasion in the final when it was important.

“Competing in six World Cups and clinching victory in the last one is an experience I know well. I hope to see you continue winning matches for India in the longer formats of the game,” the last part of Tendulkar’s message for Kohli read.

Tendulkar, who was a senior member of the team, contemplated on how Sharma has changed from a young player to a World Cup-triumphing captain over 17 years.

“I’ve witnessed your evolution from a promising youngster to a World Cup-winning captain from close quarters. Your unwavering commitment & exceptional talent have brought immense pride to the nation,” Tendulkar wrote.

The cricket legend also believed that Kohli and Sharma concluded their T20I careers in the best possible way by winning the T20 World Cup in their final match.

The Similar World Cup Winning Journeys of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

Interestingly, Tendulkar played in five ODI World Cups without winning, but secured the title in his sixth attempt in 2011. Virat Kohli had a similar journey in T20Is.

Kohli first competed in the T20 World Cup in 2012 in Sri Lanka. Despite strong performances in the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2022 editions, he never won the T20 World Cup. He subsequently secured the trophy with Team India in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
