Indian all-rounder Axar Patel recently talked about some insightful guidance he got from departing head coach Rahul Dravid. Rahul Dravid stressed, according to Axar Patel, that winning the World Cup would make for lifelong memories for him. Dravid was called a true gentleman of the game by Patel.

India, led by Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa by seven runs in an entertaining final match to win the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The players gave Dravid a priceless gift during his final stint as head coach of the Indian cricket team.

As India’s struggling side hobbled to 34/3 in 4.3 overs, Rahul Dravid pushed Axar Patel up the order, helping to settle the innings and establish a good total. India managed to reach a competitive 176/7 in 20 overs because to Patel’s 47 runs off of 31 balls and Virat Kohli’s support. However, Patel struggled with the ball and let away 49 runs.

“I have known him since India A days”- Axar Patel

Rahul Dravid and Axar Patel have been friends since the India A days, Patel said in a Times Now interview. Patel thought about the counsel Dravid had given about preserving special times. Dravid’s advice—that a World Cup victory matters more than individual accomplishments—was highlighted by him.

“I have known him since India A days and spent a lot of time with him. When I wasn’t playing for India for 3 years, he was constantly there for me through India A. He has always said one thing that will stay with me forever and it is – It doesn’t matter how many matches or how many runs I scored for India, what matters is the memory we create now,” Patel said.

“He told me that you will play well in one match but you won’t recall it after 5 or 10 years but winning the World Cup will be a memory you will never forget – whether it’s a fielding medal or simply just recalling the time we spent together in Barbados – will be special. He’s a gentleman of the game, even Rohit Sharma has said it,” he added.
