Leading fast pacer for Men In Blue, Jasprit Bumrah, expressed particular praise for skipper Rohit Sharma prior to the thrilling T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa in Barbados on June 29.
So India and South Africa have had somewhat contrasting paths in this tournament. This team, especially the one titled and captained by Rohit Sharma, has been ruling every team that they have come across in the competition, including giants like Australia, Pakistan, and England.
In multiple instances, the Proteas have narrowly avoided elimination while making it to the final. In the group stage, Bangladesh and Nepal gave them a serious competition.
They nearly completed their elimination in their last Super 8 match against the West Indies, who were the co-hosts, when they chased the amended 123 target.
Jasprit Bumrah praises Rohit Sharma:
India’s lead pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah gave a big thumbs up of approval to the Indian cricket team’s commandant Rohit Sharma and said to Rohit that he has been phenomenal as the captain of this Indian team. In a video that has gone viral on this officially operated Instagram handle, Bumrah said that even in last year’s ODI World Cup, Rohit was very aggressive and he also said that the Indian captain sets his players very free.
“Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal. Even in the previous World Cup, you know, he has been proactive, he gives a lot of freedom to his players, and he lets the players express themselves. When he feels the right time, he shares his own experience during the match. So ya, it feels great and I feel very happy playing under him and the confidence of the group is also very high,” The 30-year-old added.
In this competition, Rohit Sharma has performed well as a batter and as the leader of the team as well. In the T20 World Cup 2024, he crossed the highest run mark in India and was third in the total ranking. As captain of the team, he has also done a splendid job of choosing the right positions for field placements and the right substitutes in bowling.
