Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels Virat Kohli should have featured in the ongoing limited-overs series against West Indies. The veteran India batter has been going through a prolonged lean patch in his career. He has struggled to convert his starts into big scores in international cricket in the last couple of years. Amid his poor form, Kohli has been given an extended break by the Indian selectors.

The 33-year-old will also be missing the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe. He is likely to make a comeback to the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022, which will take place later this month in the UAE. However, his form has raised a lot of questions with the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner. The decision to rest Kohli, when he is not in the best of forms has drawn a lot of criticism from fans and experts.

In a video on Jatin Sapru’s Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that Virat Kohli has missed a lot of matches for India this year. He added that the former Indian skipper should have features in either the ODIs or the T20Is against West Indies. Aakash Chopra said as quoted by Crictracker,

“The problem is that you need to remind people of Virat’s numbers. This is because he has played very little and missed more games of late. Even Rohit and Suryakumar won’t score in every game. But since they play continuously, we remember the good knocks that they played. Virat walks into the team no doubt, but he should have played at least the ODIs or T20Is against the West Indies.”

Don’t understand the thinking behind sending Suryakumar Yadav at the top: Aakash Chopra

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra further questioned the decision to open the batting with Suryakumar Yadav in the West Indies series. India has been experimenting at the top of the order in T20Is. They opened the innings with Rishabh Pant in a couple of matches this year, and now Suryakumar Yadav has been assigned the role in the ongoing series.

Aakash Chopra expressed that Suryakumar Yadav is in form and should be playing in the middle order. He added that the right-handed batter needs to be given a specific role in the batting order.

“I don’t understand the thinking behind sending him at the top. Batting in the middle order is a bit difficult and he is also in form, so he has an understanding of that role. In T20Is and Tests, I feel positions are very important. Why don’t you send DK or Hardik at the top? Because they have a specified role, right? Then why not the same for Suryakumar Yadav?,” stated Aakash Chopra.
