“He Is More Suited To One-Day Cricket” – Wasim Jaffer Picks This Youngster Ahead Of Suryakumar Yadav For ODI World Cup

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer recently shared his thoughts on the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. He shed light on the potential selections for the mega-event which will take place from October 5 in India. Jaffer picked Tilak Varma ahead of Suryakumar Yadav in his Indian squad for the World Cup.

Tilak Varma is yet to make his ODI debut for Team India. However, he has a good record in Youth ODIs, scoring 661 runs at an average of 38.88, including a century and four fifties. He made an impressive T20I debut for India in the series against West Indies last month. Varma was rewarded a place in India’s Asia Cup squad.

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer is the youngster in his ODI World Cup squad ahead of Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav has been terrific for India in T20Is but hasn’t replicated the same in the ODI format. He has scored 511 runs at an average of 24.33, with two fifties in 24 innings.

“I will probably take out Prasidh Krishna and it would be a tough choice between Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav. I’ll pick Tilak Varma even though he has not played ODI cricket at all for India. But looking at how he bats and plays his cricket, I think he is more suited to one-day cricket. Suryakumar does have a lot of promise, and he has not cracked the code of ODI cricket despite getting a lot of opportunities,” said Wasim Jaffer on ESPN Cricinfo.

I am hoping Jasprit Bumrah is alright: Wasim Jaffer

Furthermore, Jaffer expressed his concerns about the fitness of key players, particularly Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He highlighted the importance of Jasprit Bumrah who will be leading the Indian pace attack in the tournament. He made his comeback recently during the Ireland series.

“The only concern was Jasprit Bumrah if he could bowl 10 overs, which we did not get to see. But I am hoping he is alright because he played well in Ireland. KL Rahul has not played yet, but I am hoping once he passes the fitness test, he will be fine. Whether he gets to play or not we will see,” Jaffer said.

KL Rahul is part of India’s squad for the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup. However, he missed the first two matches of the tournament due to fitness concerns. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is back in India for the birth of his first child after playing the opening game against Pakistan. Both the players are likely to be available for the Super Fours round.
