Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli briefed India captain Rohit Sharma about the history of a viral picture after the Men in Blue clinched the T20 World Cup final. Out of all the sources, an interview opinion about how Virat Kohli encouraged Rohit Sharma to lift the World Cup trophy in front of the Barbados audience can be gathered.
A new addition to the history of Indian cricket was made as Rohit Sharma led Team India and clinched the T20 World Championship. The men in blue thus came from the long-sustained 11 years without a trophy by beating South Africa by 7 runs in the nail-biting match. As for the mood at the Kensington Oval after the victory, there could be a spectrum of emotions. The members of the Indian cricket squad were mature enough to control their emotions. They could feel the emotions rise up in their eyes.
This was something Rohit Sharma had been showing since he took over the captaincy of India’s all-format side. Ever since the disappointment of the ODI World Cup, which was held in India the previous year, the need to win a crown has been tenfold. Thus, there was a departure from the game’s shortest format as he achieved his final dream.
“It was a very special thing for him”- Virat Kohli
Celebrations-wise, Virat Kohli told Rohit to hold the trophy,, as he said in a video sent to Star Sports handles on social media. Kohli said that Rohit was enjoying it a lot, especially with his family, especially his daughter Samaira.
“It was a very special thing for him [Rohit] as well. His family is here, Samaira [Rohit’s daughter] was on his shoulder. But I just felt like in the victory lap he was behind the whole time. I told him, ‘Tu bhi thodi trophy pakad le (you also hold the trophy for a while), for two minutes. We should take a picture together because this journey has been very long,” Kohli said.
The victory in the T20 World Cup led to the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from one format of international cricket: Twenty20 international cricket. Both the batting partners had a very long-standing partnership but they, unfortunately, could not clinch a World Cup title. The two finally captured a World Cup trophy during the just-concluded 2024 T20 World Cup finals against South Africa.
