Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has reacted to India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav’s request for guidance on mastering all three formats of the game. During a recent interview, Suryakumar was asked what he would discuss with De Villiers if given the chance for an in-depth conversation.
In response, the Indian star expressed his desire to seek valuable advice from the South African great, who was renowned for his consistency across formats. De Villiers remains one of the few players to average over 50 in both Tests and ODIs, while also maintaining an impressive T20 career average of 37.24.
Responding to Suryakumar Yadav’s request, De Villiers said during a discussion on his YouTube channel:
“I have a lot of questions to ask him. I’ll start preparing for his questions as well. Regarding the balancing of formats, I am not sure he has big hopes and dreams of playing Test cricket. I don’t think he’ll throw it away. But on finding consistency between ODIs and T20s, I’ll do my homework and give SKY a good answer.”

AB de Villiers lauded Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, crediting him for India’s exceptional success in T20Is. Under Surya’s captaincy, the Men in Blue have secured 25 wins in 34 matches, including an impressive record of 13 victories in 15 completed games this year.
“It’s absolutely phenomenal. Suryakumar Yadav is quite calm and collected but also very inspirational in the way he performs himself. We all know he can pull a rabbit out of the hat and achieve the unimaginable,” said De Villiers (via the aforementioned source).
He further concluded:
“That’s the kind of player he is and I think a lot of players find confidence and self belief through that. That’s the big word, self belief. In T20 cricket, you need to have a lot of self belief, not only as an individual but as a team as well. Surya brings that to the table.”
