If there is something other than the Champions Trophy that is creating a buzz, it is the look out for India”s next coach. There has been so much talk regarding the topic and everyone seem to be curious!
It is a high profile job and thus the hype and the drama around it is expected, anyway, Indian cricket has never failed to deliver on the drama front off the field.
The two top contenders for the top spot are former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and Sunrisers Hyderabad Coach Tom Moody. Sehwag was requested to apply for the position but the BCCI ended up getting a two-line CV from him.
Other applicants include Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput, Australian’s Craig McDermott , former Indian bowler Dodda Ganesh and former Zimbabwe player Richard Pybus. The committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman is expected to interview the candidates on Thursday or Friday.
It being reported that Indian skipper Virat Kohli still prefers Ravi Shastri as the coach of the Indian team.
Virat Kohli met with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman and requested them to consider Ravi Shastri and invite him for the interview. However, there is a slim possibility of Ravi Shastri getting the post. He was rejected last time and has not applied this time. ” The interview process would start from either Thursday evening or Friday onwards. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) would meet the candidates individually and take the call later,” a source added.
