Former Team India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh recently named Rohit Sharma as a better captain than MS Dhoni. He explained his choice by highlighting the different leadership styles of the two experienced captains.
Harbhajan pointed out that Sharma’s ability to connect with his players distinguishes him from others, while he suggested that Dhoni often relied on his silence to communicate. In an interview with Sports Yaari, Harbhajan stated:
“I chose Rohit above Dhoni because Rohit is people’s captain. He goes up to the people and asks them what they want. His teammates connect with him very well. But Dhoni’s style was different. He didn’t talk to anyone. He wanted to convey his thoughts through his silence. It was his way of communicating with others.”

It should be noted that both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the most prolific title-winners as captains in the history of IPL, with five titles each. In international cricket, however, Dhoni is the only captain to have won all three ICC trophies in white-ball formats.
He won India’s first ever ICC Trophy in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Sharma also led the team to two finals which were the ODI World Cup in 2023 and the 2023 WTC. Sharma was the captain who led his side in the WTC final in 2022, but most of that cycle was under Virat Kohli’s command.

In the interview mentioned earlier, Harbhajan Singh stated that Rohit Sharma’s greatest quality is the many friendships he has formed during his rise to the top. He noted that no player has expressed anything negative about the star batter.
Harbhajan stated:
“The best thing is that he throughout his career, he has made a lot of friends while climbing up. He doesn’t have any enemies. All the guys are still with him and you won’t see anyone speak anything bad about him.”
The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, achieved a 2-0 whitewash in the recently concluded home series against Bangladesh. He will next play in the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16 in Bengaluru.
