In the second ODI of the ongoing series against West Indies, former India captain Virat Kohli again failed to make a big score with the bat. Kohli was looking good during his time at the crease, however, he was caught behind by Shai Hope when batting on 18 runs, off Odean Smith’s bowling.
In the first ODI as well, Kohli had given his wicket away after smashing two boundaries. Kohli has been waiting for his 71st international century for quite some time now. His last ton came on 22nd November 2019.
Talking about the same on his YouTube Channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that it’s hard to understand why Kohli is not able to get those big scores.
“What is happening with Virat, he didn’t score runs again, I mean I’m not able to understand it – how do you? Obviously, he pays a huge price for his own success because you compare him with his standard but at the moment, you are not measuring him with someone else’s yardstick but the normal yardstick.”
I stand with Virat Kohli – Aakash Chopra
According to Aakash, Kohli, like many great cricketers, is going through a bad patch in his career.
“This is probably the sign of greatness that you go through spells, there is a time when the runs are not scored. He is going through that patch,” Aakash said.
Aakash, however, was confident that ‘Run-Machine’ Kohli would get back to his original form very soon.
“I stand with Virat Kohli. I am saying if not now, after a few days, it doesn’t matter if the runs are not coming at this moment. At some stage, he is going to fire, there is no doubt about it,” Aakash concluded.
