How Has Jasprit Bumrah Performed Against Australia In ODIs?

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s leading fast bowler, recently returned to international cricket after recovering from back surgery during the Ireland tour last month. In the two T20Is played, he recorded figures of 2/24 and 2/15, with the third match getting rained out.

Bumrah continued to impress in the Asia Cup 2023, contributing significantly to India’s victorious campaign. He secured four wickets in three matches while maintaining excellent control over his pace and variations. His ability to deceive batsmen with well-executed slower balls was particularly noteworthy.

As the 2023 ODI World Cup draws near, Bumrah is eager to leave his mark in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, scheduled from September 22 to September 27. The series will kick off in Mohali, followed by matches in Indore and Rajkot.

Jasprit Bumrah’s performance in ODIs against Australia

Surprisingly, Jasprit Bumrah’s ODI record against Australia is not very impressive. In 17 matches, he has taken 22 wickets with an average of 37.36. Of these matches, 12 were played at home, where he secured just 13 wickets at an average of 40.46.

Bumrah is determined to enhance his ODI performance against Australia in India. In Australia, he has participated in four ODI matches against the Australian team, capturing six wickets with an average of 39.16.

He also played one ODI against Australia at a neutral venue, the 2019 World Cup match at The Oval.  During this match, Bumrah took 3/61 in 10 overs, dismissing Usman Khawaja, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Pat Cummins, contributing to India’s remarkable 36-run victory.

Bumrah’s best bowling performance against Australia in ODIs was his three-wicket haul at The Oval. He also claimed 2/40 on his ODI debut against Australia in Sydney in January 2016, dismissing Steve Smith and James Faulkner in a match that India won by six wickets.

In another match in Mohali during the 2019 series, Bumrah took three wickets by dismissing Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja, and Alex Carey. However, Australia managed to chase down 359 in 47.5 overs, overshadowing his performance.

Bumrah’s most recent ODI against Australia was in Canberra in December 2020, where he took 2/43, including the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa, contributing to India’s 13-run victory.
