Australia middle-order batsman Travis Head has revealed the different moments of his certain comeback to the Australian side after being ousted during the recently concluded home Test series against India during the tour of 2020-21. During the interview, Head disclosed that he pulled out of his natural game, and it worked for him as he got good results out of it.

Head failed terribly in the two Tests against India and managed only 7 and 38 in the two matches before he was dropped for the Sydney match in favor of Pucovski, who was to make his debut. But the never-surrender attitude with additional extra efforts in practice helped the left-arm seamer to make a comeback for the Australian team for the 2021-22 high-profile Ashes series against England.

It was another phenomenal rise for Head as he became one of Australia’s most valuable match-winners. During the Ashes series, he played exceptionally well to deserve the Compton-Miller medal and scored 357 runs in five Test matches. This is all the more reason Head is a viable addition to the Australian team, as he will not be easily discouraged and can change his mindset, as shown by his comeback.

“Get in good positions to not get out”-Travis Head

The southpaw recalled how losing his national contract prevented him from playing well for Sussex in an interview with AAP. But he claimed that his innings of 49 off 46 deliveries marked a sea change, saying:

“I lost my (national) contract and then I went to Sussex and stunk it up there as well. I tried to keep batting the way I was batting and it wasn’t working. Was trying to still nurdle instead of just backing myself. Then in one of my last games at Sussex, I got 49 off 46 in the second innings and I thought, F**k this; I am just going to slog. And I did well, so I thought, “Why don’t I just do that?’” Travis Head said.

“I was worried about my technique back then. My theory was if I could stay out there long enough, my aggressive approach would take over, and I would score runs by being there. Now I am like, Don’t worry about getting out; if you can score, score. And then if you can’t score, get in good positions to not get out. I’m more worried about runs now than anything else.” Travis Head added.

Meanwhile, the five-Test series between Australia and India is locked at 1-1 ahead of the Boxing Day contest.
