Australian debutant Sam Konstas has reflected on a thrilling passage involving Indian icon Virat Kohli during the first day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne. Playing his first match after coming into the playing XI for Nathan McSweeney, the youngster is only 19 years old. Konstas made a superb fifty on his first Test knock and that will remain in the memories.
For instance, Konstas faced the troubling Jasprit Bumrah, who had haunted Australian opening batsmen during the series. Consequently, the young opener, who was particularly so aggressive with his batting, messed up the Indians. Again, Konstas developed a fearless approach complemented by excellent stroke play and a dream start to his Test carnear.
The Australian cricket team will be expecting Konstas to sustain his performance, something that will give some equilibrium to the foreseeable powerful batting lineup of the rival parties.
“I think emotions got over both of us”- Sam Konstas
Australian debutant Sam Konstas has spoken on the confrontation with Virat Kohli on the first day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne. The event happened during a break between overs, where Kohli used his hand to shove Konstas on the shoulder and followed this by using abusive language on the latter. Then the umpires came to separate them.
Konstas has for some time now ignored this incident or explained that everyone was charged during the match. I remember him in a recent interview with 7Cricket saying that they both lost their control and reacted emotionally to whatever situation was playing out on the field.
Konstas was unnerved in his response and has been applauded for showing maturity after the incident. But this aggressive confrontation did not distract Konstas; he also had a great test debut and a fine half-ton.
“I think emotions got over both of us. I didn’t quite realize, I was doing my gloves and then there was a little shoulder charge. But it happens, it’s cricket” Sam Konstas said.
The 19-year-old had a spectacular Test debut, smashing a fast 60 off 65 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes.
