Promising youngster Shubman Gill has expressed his disappointment at not being picked for India”s upcoming tour to West Indies. The 19-year-old was in fine touch during India A”s unofficial ODI series against West Indies A. The batter amassed 2018 runs in four innings, including three consecutive fifties
India A clinched the series 4-1 and Gill ended the tour as the top-run-getter. He has failed to make the cut whereas the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey made it to the ODI squad.
Gill expresses his disappointment
“I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads,” Gill was quoted as saying. “It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors.”
“It was a fantastic series for me and team as well since we won with a 4-1 margin. Personally, I would have liked to carry on and score at least a couple of hundreds in those fifties. But I will learn from this experience,” he added.
Gill has been scoring runs at will
Gill had a successful stint with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2019 IPL. He was made to open the innings on a few occasions and the young batter responded with lot of runs. He was also named the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’ for his sublime show.
Gill has been consistently scoring runs in the domestic circuit. He notched up 700 runs in mere 5 outings in the previous Ranji Trophy season. Team India is yet to find an answer for their middle-order muddle and hence a reliable Gill can be the solution.
