“I Forgot The Way To The Press Conference” – Faf du Plessis After Breaking A Six-Match Losing Streak

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), humorously mentioned forgetting his post-match presentation duties following the end of a six-match losing streak in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

The three-time finalists triumphed over the formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, April 25th. In the IPL, the captain of the losing team doesn’t attend the post-match presentation.

Instead, they are interviewed by the broadcasters immediately after the match. This has been the case for Faf du Plessis during RCB’s recent losing streak. However, this time, SRH captain Pat Cummins had to undergo the initial interview, while Du Plessis attended the post-match presentation ceremony.

Du Plessis humorously mentioned his forgetfulness about finding the way to the event when Murali Kartik asked him about achieving their first win after precisely a month. Watch the video here:

“I forgot the way to the press conference. Every time I’ve just walked off (laughs). The last two games, we’ve showed great signs of a fight. The last game they scored 270+ and we got 260, the KKR game as well we lost by a run.”

“We’ve played some close games but you have to win matches to get some confidence back in the group… When you don’t win, it affects the team and me as well,” Du Plessis said.

RCB chose to bat first and posted a total of 206 runs. They successfully defended this score with what could be considered their strongest bowling performance of the season.

The visiting team effectively contained the powerful SRH batting lineup, winning the match by 35 runs and securing their first away victory of the season.

“Tonight, I’ll be happier when I go to sleep” – Faf du Plessis

RCB’s chances of making it to the playoffs are very slim, but the crucial point is that they are still in contention. The team likely needs to win all their remaining matches to secure a spot in the top four, or they risk missing out on the knockout stage for the second consecutive season.

“I’ll sleep a little happier tonight. You can’t speak confidence into a group, you can’t fake confidence into a group. The only thing that gives confidence is performances. In the first half we were not quite near our potential.”

“Obviously you try 100 per cent but if the performances aren’t good, the competition is so strong and the teams are so strong, you’ll get hurt,” the RCB skipper added.

RCB will be optimistic that this victory marks the beginning of a positive trend. The batting lineup performed well, with Kohli and Patidar both scoring half-centuries, while the bowling unit supported the team with crucial breakthroughs in the second innings.

Next, the team led by Faf du Plessis is set to play against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 28th.
