While talking to the media after leading his team to victory in the fourth and final T20 match, Yadav emphasized the importance of the team combinations; however, he was quick to add that the present is paramount, and team combinations will be thought of a little bit later.

Reflective of his commendable performance, the conversation moved towards whether or not Sanju Samson would find a place in the Indian T20I squad. Samson has been used as an opener in place of Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal and has scored 300 runs in his last five T20 Internationals.

Despite Samson’s exceptional efforts, Yadav did not promise him a specific position on the team. Samson has undoubtedly made a compelling case for inclusion in the Indian T20I squad because to his flexibility and form.

“I like to live in the moment”- Suryakumar Yadav

Having so many players vying for a spot in the squad is a happy headache for India, according to skipper Suryakumar Yadav. At the post-match press conference following the fourth and final T20 of the series, Yadav stated that he was focusing on the present and will consider the Indian team’s future lineups at a later time.

“Even before the World Cup, we played a few T20 tournaments and we spoke about what type of cricket we want to play going forward. We play for different franchises in the IPL but when we come together, I think we wanted to do the same thing what we do for our franchise,” Suryakumar Yadav said about the team’s series win in South Africa.

“I have not thought about that far away. I like to live in the moment, enjoying the series win right now. When we sit down with the coaches, it will be difficult but it is a good headache to have. If you have 20-25 people and you have to make a team of 10-15 players, it is going to be a challenge, but thankfully I have the BCCI and the selectors for that headache,” Suryakumar Yadav further added.

India’s next T20I match will be against England in 2025, in preparation for the Champions Trophy.
