Team India cricketer Smriti Mandhana hopes to reach veteran batter Virat Kohli’s level. She expressed that she does not like the comparisons between them, and added that she is nowhere near what the former Indian skipper has achieved. Mandhana will be leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 Women’s Premier League.
Both Smriti Mandhana and Virat Kohli share the same jersey number, i.e 18. Virat Kohli was also the leader of the Royal Challengers Bangalore till 2021 in the Indian Premier League. Speaking to reporters, ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s opening clash in the Women’s Premier League, Smriti Mandhana said,
“I don’t like the kind of comparison because what he (Kohli) has achieved is amazing. I just hope that I reach that level, but I’m nowhere near. What he has achieved for this franchise (RCB), I would like to try and do that.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana expressed that with the Women’s Premier League kicking off, women’s cricket is going through a great phase. She added that people have accepted women’s cricket in India. Speaking about her captaincy experience, the left-handed batter shared that her leadership experience will help her in the 2023 Women’s Premier League.
“With the Women’s Premier League, I think it is an amazing time for women’s cricket. Everywhere you can see how people are excited and accepted women’s cricket in India. I have led domestic teams right from the age of 16, I have led the Maharashtra team and in the Challengers trophy. Captaincy is not something that is very new to me. I would like to use all those experiences I have had in WPL,” said Smriti Mandhana.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Delhi Capitals on Sunday, March 5 at 3:30 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
