Team India batter Suryakumar Yadav is in dazzling form in the ongoing 2022 T20 World Cup. He has emerged as a match-winner for India in the format. The right-handed batter slammed a fantastic 61*(25) deliveries in the recent encounter against Zimbabwe. His batting during the innings, left the fans as well as the experts awestruck, especially the scoop shot he hit.

The Zimbabwe bowlers bowled wide outside the off-stump to Suryakumar Yadav. However, he still managed to hit them for multiple boundaries, by getting across the stumps and them hitting over fine leg. Those shots impressed the fans the most, who lauded the batter for his impeccable strokeplay. Speaking about how he mastered the shot, Suryakumar Yadav revealed that he used to practice it will a rubber ball, during his initial days.

In the Star Sports show, “Follow the Blues”, the right-handed batter said,

“I have practiced that stroke (scoop shot) a lot when I used to play rubber-ball cricket. So, you got to be thinking what the bowler is thinking at that time and if the field is in, I just back myself to go there. You got to know how long the boundary behind is. When I stand there, I feel it’s just 60-65 meters and with the pace of the ball I just try and time it, take it on the sweet spot of the bat and if it hits, it just goes out there.”

When I go into bat, I just try and look for a few boundaries: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav further revealed how he paces his innings in the T20 format. He expressed that he looks for a few boundaries early on in the innings. The Indian cricketer added that when he plays with Virat Kohli, he tries to hit in the gap, and run hard to get singles or doubles. Suryakumar Yadav said,

“When I go into bat, I just try and look for a few boundaries, or even if I don’t get that, I just try and run as hard as possible between wickets. If you have to bat with Virat Bhai then you have to run hard as well. But I try and do that, hit it in the gaps, and run hard. My strokes are sweeps, overcover, and cuts, if I am succeeding in that, I just take the game ahead from there.”
