Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were once making the batsmen dance to their tune in International cricket. Unfortunately, over the last year or so, both of them have struggled to perform consistently for the team. As a result, Ravindra Jadeja has taken over as the premier spinner for India in limited-overs cricket. The absence of Hardik Pandya – the bowler too has hampered the duo’s chances of featuring in the XI.
Former cricketer Deep Dasgupta feels Rahul Chahar might play ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal for India in T20 World. He also added that it’s unlikely that Kuldeep and Chahal will play together in the global tournament.
“At the moment, it looks unlikely. To be very honest, I see Rahul Chahar ahead of Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal). A lot will depend on the Sri Lanka series and obviously on the IPL as well,” Deep Dasgupta said in a reply to a question asked by a fan in a recent video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
“As for Kuldeep, he has not been the preferred bowler for more than a year and a half. So, it looks unlikely to me as of now. I don’t know what will happen in six months,” he added.
Kuldeep and Chahal are currently part of the Indian team for the series against Sri Lanka. The series will be crucial for the duo with the T20 World Cup in sight.
Samson and Kishan both should play against Sri Lanka: Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta also stated that both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have done enough to get an opportunity against Sri Lanka.
“I think both of them have earned their stripes, they should share the games in the series. Both of them have an opportunity for the World Cup, so yeah, if they are six matches, both should play [some of them] as wicketkeeper-batsmen,” he added.
The India-Sri Lanka series was pushed back by five days due to a couple of Covid-19 cases that emerged in the host camp. The series will now begin on July 18.
