“I Simply Want To Make The Most Of The Remaining Years Of Playing Cricket” – MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) keeper-batter MS Dhoni has indicated that he plans to play in the IPL next year. The 42-year-old expressed a desire to enjoy the remaining years of his cricket career and intends to continue playing for a few more seasons.

Despite concerns about his age and declining performance, there has been much speculation regarding his involvement in the tournament. Dhoni enjoys a huge fanbase, and even brief appearances by the former CSK captain elicit enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

At a promotional event for Rigi, the former Indian skipper remarked on the challenges of professional sports, highlighting the dedication and emotions involved. Nonetheless, he is eager to keep playing for several more years. As reported by The Times of India, he stated:

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play. In our childhood, we used to go out to play at 4pm and enjoy the game.”

”But when you play professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy cricket, just like a game. It’s not easy. The emotions are there, commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years.”

The Super Kings can retain Dhoni as an uncapped player for four crore, thanks to the reintroduced retention rule that was previously eliminated in 2021. He stepped down as captain just before the 2024 season and is tied with Rohit Sharma as the most successful captain in IPL history, with five titles.

“I’ve Made It Very Simple”- MS Dhoni On His Training And Diet

Discussing his training routine, the Ranchi-born cricketer shared that he employs a stop-start approach. The veteran further added:

“I’ve kept it very simple. I’ll train for 15, 20, 25 days and then take off for 15-20 days, so it really helps me be in the groove. I can enjoy the food that I want to eat. Once I start training, I follow a good diet, I won’t say an excellent diet. That’s what keeps me busy.”

The deadline for all ten franchises to announce their retentions is October 31.
