“I Think Pant And Karthik Can Play Together” – Adam Gilchrist On India’s Dilemma With Wicketkeeper Spot

The Rishabh Pant vs Dinesh Karthik debate erupted during the Asia Cup after India skipper Rohit Sharma issued a statement saying that they had to make a tough choice between the two keepers. He further said that Pant and Karthik together do not fit into the playing XI. Ever since India’s think tank has looked confused. They have done nothing but play musical chairs with the two.

Many former cricketers and critics have raised questions and issued their opinions on the same. Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist is the latest addition to the Pant vs Karthik debate.

He stated that Rishabh Pant is a must-add to the Indian lineup, considering his insane hitting power. He also added that Dinesh Karthik will provide versatility to the Indian lineup and both should be included in the playing XI. Speaking to ICC, Adam Gilchrist said:

“The dare of Rishabh Pant and the courage for him, the way in which he takes on bowling attacks. I think he’s got to be a must in that Indian line-up. They can play together, but I think Rishabh Pant has definitely got to be in there.”

He further added:

“It’ll be interesting to see if they can both play in the same team. I think they can. What they bring to a team is the versatility of Dinesh Karthik, he can play at the top of the order, and he can, as he has done more so later in his career, be in the middle and late overs to finish. He has a really nice touch game.”

India need to find answers soon with T20 World Cup approaching thick and fast

India does have the luxury of including both wicket-keeper batters in the starting lineup of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to the unavailability of Ravindra Jadeja. But the think tank seems to have a different plan in mind.

Rishabh Pant was a regular member of the team across all three formats before the arrival of Dinesh Karthik. Karthik staged an inspiring comeback at the age of 37. Both are part of the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, which is to be held next month. It will be interesting to see who makes the cut into the final playing XI.
