Dinesh Karthik thanked Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a heartwarming note after being named in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The BCCI on Monday named its 15-member squad for the upcoming marquee T20 event scheduled to take place in Australia, starting October 16.

Incidentally, Karthik was not in the reckoning for the Indian team until IPL 2022. However, a superlative outing in the tournament, where he scored 330 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of over 175, saw him return to the national side.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter, who was part of India’s first-ever T20I match in 2006, fared well upon his return to the Indian team and was even picked ahead of Rishabh Pant in their Asia Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan. Given his finishing prowess, the selectors named him in the World Cup squad as they chase their maiden ICC event since 2013.

“After the call-up, Dinesh Karthik thanked the Bangalore for helping him achieve his dream while acknowledging the coaching staff of the franchise including Director of Cricket Mike Hesson, coach Sanjay Bangar, and Head of Scouting, Malolan Rangarajan while paying his gratitude towards loyal RCB fans,” Karthik wrote on Twitter.

“I want to be part of that World Cup desperately” – When Dinesh Karthik spoke about his dream

Dinesh Karthik during the IPL had mentioned in a chat with teammate Virat Kohli that the ultimate goal was to play for India and he desperately wanted to win the World Cup for the Men in Blue.

“The bigger vision is that I want to play for the country. I know there is a World Cup around the corner. I want to be part of that World Cup desperately and help India cross that line. It’s been a long time since India won a multi-nation tournament.

“I want to be that person who is helping India do that. For that, you need to be aware of so many things, try and be that player who people think ‘hey this guy is doing something special,” Karthik stated.
