Indian batter Rinku Singh recently expressed his disappointment with not being selected for Duleep Trophy squads scheduled to play in October 2023. While most contracted players, except for some senior candidates, and few emerging talents were named in the four squads of this tournament that marks the beginning of Indian domestic season.
Rinku Singh is a regular member of T20I squad since he has already performed successfully. He was among those who were missing from the recently-framed men’s selection committee under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar.
He played T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka away from home in recent times as left-handed batsman. Although he did not record impressive numbers with the bat, this left-hander did save his team in the deciding game of third T20I against herunformed team and earned herself a title as best fielder in both tours.
He has been given this task because he has been working with coaches who want him to transform his white-ball accomplishments into red-ball cricket as well. Nonetheless, he will have to be patient to get that chance.
“Nothing…I didn’t perform that well (in the domestic season). I didn’t play many matches in the Ranji Trophy…I played 2-3 matches. And I wasn’t selected because I didn’t play that well. I might get selected for next-round matches,” Rinku told Sportstak.
Rinku Singh made 26 runs from 33 balls during the last red-ball game played by Uttar Pradesh against Andhra in February 2024 which ended in no result. In the forthcoming home season, Rinku Singh will likely play in the white-ball matches, including assignments against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Rinku Singh has a first-class cricket batting average of 54.70
It is primarily for his pinch-hitting ability that the left-handed batter is recognized in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and national team. Nonetheless, it’s a general agreement that he can do more than slogs alone which is reflected in his domestic red-ball cricket statistics.
He made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2016, and since then, he has played 47 first-class matches, scoring 3173 runs at an average of 54.70.
