India youngster Musheer Khan has set his eyes on the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 trophy. He has dominated the tournament so far and has been leading the run-scoring charts. India has reached the knockout stages without having lost a single game in the tournament.
Musheer Khan has been India’s top performer in the tournament. He has smashed 334 runs in five matches at an average of 83.50. He has slammed two centuries and a fifty so far. Musheer expressed that he is delighted with his performance, but will only be satisfied once India lifts the trophy. Speaking to ICC, the prolific run-scorer said,
“I am happy with my performances but I won’t be satisfied until we win the World Cup. As far as being the highest run-getter, I don’t really want to think about it. Since we started playing the tournament, it was only about winning the World Cup and that’s what we are focussing on. I only want to do well for the team and take the results as they come.”
My focus too is on the process: Musheer Khan shares learnings from brother Sarfaraz Khan
Musheer Khan comes from a cricketing family in Mumbai. His older brother Sarfaraz Khan recently earned his maiden India test call-up for the second match against England. Sarfaraz has also played in the U19 World Cup for India. Musheer Khan shared the learnings from his brother, having observed him from close quarters. The youngster said,
I have learnt a lot from Sarfaraz – right from how he bats to how he is always thinking about winning the game for his team to how he builds his innings. Even as he was knocking on the doors of the Indian team, his focus was always on scoring runs and on the process without worrying about the result. My focus too is on the process.”
“The first thing he told me (before the U19 World Cup) was that there is no bigger pride than playing for India. He told me to enjoy myself on the field and whenever I get a chance – be it with the bat or ball – you have to pull the team up in any situation and win the game. He told me to play with all my heart because you are representing the country,” added Musheer Khan.
India will play the semi-final of the U19 ICC World Cup against South Africa on Tuesday, February 6 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
