The International Cricket Council (ICC) concluded the 2024 T20 World Cup by unveiling the tournament’s best XI. Notably, the Indian cricket team, victorious over South Africa in the final, had six players included, while South Africa, despite being runners-up, had none in the starting XI.
India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, celebrated for his outstanding batting throughout the tournament, was featured prominently, along with middle-order standout Suryakumar Yadav. India’s dominance was particularly evident in the bowling department, with pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, earning spots.
Under Sharma’s leadership, India ended an 11-year wait for an ICC title and a 17-year gap as T20 world champions, securing their victory on a dramatic Saturday in Barbados. The final match, largely controlled by South Africa for most of its duration, swung in India’s favour due to exceptional death bowling from Bumrah, Pandya, and Singh.
Despite his heroics in the final, where he was named Player of the Match, India’s star player Virat Kohli was not included in the tournament team.
