Pakistani sports presenter Zainab Abbas, who is currently in India for the ODI World Cup 2023, finds herself entangled in a legal predicament stemming from her previous social media activity. Zainab Abbas, a renowned figure in the realm of sports presenting in Pakistan, now faces repercussions due to her historical online posts.
These posts have come under intense scrutiny as she takes on her role as one of the presenters endorsed by the ICC for the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 hosted in India. The controversy unfolded on October 5 when Vineet Jindal, a practising lawyer in the Supreme Court of India, lodged a cyber complaint against Zainab. The legal action was initiated in response to what was perceived as “anti-Hindu” and “anti-India” sentiments in Zainab’s alleged old tweets.
These offensive tweets reportedly shared around nine years ago under the username “Zainablovesrk,” resurfaced on social media, sparking outrage. Notably, Zainab has since updated her X (formerly Twitter) account to “ZAbbas Official,” which is her current active profile.
Vineet Jindal made the complaint public, highlighting Zainab’s derogatory remarks about the Hindu faith and beliefs, as well as her statements deemed as anti-Bharat (anti-India). He went a step further by tagging the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), urging them to remove Zainab from the list of presenters participating in this prominent cricketing event.
