Team India arrived in Thiruvananthapuram for their second warm-up match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands on Sunday, October 1. However, they were without veteran batter Virat Kohli, who is likely to join the team on Monday, October 2 ahead of the game, as per reports.
The Indian team was in Guwahati for their first warm-up match. However, it got abandoned due to rain. They flew from Guwahati to Thiruvananthapuram, however, Virat Kohli returned back to Mumbai for personal reasons, as reported by Cricbuzz. He will join the Indian team in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Team India will have an optional practice session ahead of the second warm-up match.
“Team India will have an optional training session from 2 PM onwards at the KCA – St Xavier’s College Cricket Ground, Thiruvananthapuram, weather permitting,” said a spokesperson to Cricbuzz.
Angry celebrations are a thing of the past: Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli will be playing his fourth ICC ODI World Cup. He was part of the 2011 Indian World Cup winning team and has also led India in the 2015 edition. In a recent interview, Kohli admitted that the past two-and-a-half years of his cricketing career have taught him a lot. He added that his angry century celebrations are a thing of the past now. He also expressed that received advice from many people regarding his mistakes.
Speaking to the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the upcoming edition, Virat Kohli said,
“The last two and a half years have taught me a lot. Those angry celebrations are a thing of the past. I have had many suggestions, and lots of advice has come my way; people were telling me I was doing this wrong, that wrong.”
Team India will play against the Netherlands in their second warm-up match on Wednesday, October 3 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. They kick off their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
