ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: SWOT Analysis – Australia Squad
Australia

Australia will enter the 2023 World Cup as one of the favourites to win the tournament. Under the captaincy of Pat Cummins, the Aussies would showcase their attacking skills and become champions for the 6th time.

During the 2019 World Cup played in England and Wales, Australia finished 2nd in the points table of the league stage and lost to England in the semi-finals of the tournament. The Aussies will be high on confidence as they registered a thumping 66-run victory in 3rd One-day international at Rajkot.

Australia lost 2 back-to-back ODI series against South Africa by 2-3 and then against India by 2-1.

Here we look at the SWOT analysis of the Australian Team:

Strengths:

Australia’s biggest strength is their batting order as David Warner and Mitchell Marsh would open the innings providing explosive starts and putting pressure on the opponent’s bowling. Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell are a strong middle order that can change the course of the match with their brilliant batting.

The bowling department looks strong with the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa who can trouble any batting lineup in the world. They are fighters who will give everything and push their limit to win matches on their own.

Weaknesses:

The Australian team is very inconsistent despite having a strong batting and bowling unit. Their performance in recent ODI matches has not been up to the mark while the bowlers have conceded lots of runs not picking wickets in middle overs that helped opponents to post big totals.

Australia have been dealt with injuries to their key players including Travis Head who might not play the first half of the tournament while Ashton Agar has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an injury. Despite Travis Head’s injury, Travis Head is a part of a 15-member squad for the tournament.

Another major weakness for Australia would be that Adam Zampa is the only frontline spinner in the squad that might hurt. Glenn Maxwell is a part-time spinner but can’t rely on him every time Zampa goes for runs.

Opportunities:

This World Cup will give a chance for the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell to win another major ICC title. Australia can put pressure on the opponents with their explosive batting and bowling.

After not qualifying for the 2019 World Cup finals, Australia would be looking to stamp their authority with some lovely players from their key players including Steve Smith, Warner, Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell.

Depending upon the conditions, Australia must perform brilliantly to win the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Threats:

The biggest threat for Australia would be that the key players must play good cricket in tough conditions, especially on pitches that create doubt in the batters’ minds.

Alex Carey and a few others would be playing his first World Cup on Indian soil which might be a tough thing. The crowds especially playing against India might be very tough on them and make sure that pitches might trouble them a lot.

Squads:

Pat Cummins (c), Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitch Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc
