In a display Virat Kohli, the Indian batsman achieved his 49th century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the clash, between India and South Africa at Kolkatas iconic Eden Gardens on a memorable Sunday.

This remarkable feat puts him in the company of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, whose record of 49 centuries in ODIs was previously unmatched. It was a moment for Kohli especially as he was also celebrating his birthday on this historic day.

Kohli reached his record equalling century during the 49th over of Indias innings with a composed single off Kagiso Rabadas delivery. This milestone is a testament to his skill and consistent performance even though he had some close calls during the tournament.

Here are some Twitter Reactions after Kohli’s Century

On two occasions in the World Cup Kohli narrowly missed out on reaching this record by scoring 97 against New Zealand and 88 against Sri Lanka. Interestingly fans were quick to recognize the significance of this achievement as Kohlis first ODI century also took place at Eden Gardens against Sri Lanka back, in 2009.

Moreover he achieved a milestone in his cricket career by scoring his international century during a Test match, against Sri Lanka at the same venue in 2017. This remarkable achievement solidifies his reputation as one of the cricketers of our time.

Kohli, who made his debut in cricket back in 2008 has a record of 79 centuries across all three formats of the game. This places him second to Sachin Tendulkar, who has a tally of 100 centuries. Kohlis incredible consistency and status as a cricketing icon are evident from this accomplishment.

During the match itself Virat Kohli played an innings. Remained unbeaten at 101 runs from 121 deliveries. His outstanding performance played a role in helping India reach a total of 326 for 5 within their allocated 50 overs. With this victory India secured their place in the tournaments semifinals after winning all seven matches played far.

As the tournament progresses further fans and enthusiasts around the world will eagerly watch Kohlis pursuit of milestones with anticipation. Indias next challenge in the competition will be their group stage match against the Netherlands scheduled for November 12th in Bengaluru, before the anticipated semifinals.
