Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is gearing up for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which kicks off later this week in India. He hit the ground running with the Pakistan squad in Hyderabad ahead of their second warm-up clash against Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video from Pakistan’s practice session, featuring Babar Azam, who trained hard in the nets for the upcoming world championship. The Pakistan skipper faced the pacers in the net session and looked determined to perform well in the World Cup. Sharing the video the ICC wrote, “Laser-focused even during training.”

Pakistan lost their first warm-up match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand in Hyderabad. They put on 345 runs on the board on the back of Mohammad Rizwan’s 103, and valuable contributions from Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel. Babar Azam scored 80 runs, while Saud Shakeel scored a 53-ball 75. However, New Zealand chased it down comfortably with five wickets to spare. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 97 runs in the innings.
Babar Azam’s record in ODI World Cup’s
Babar Azam will be Pakistan’s trump card at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. This will be his second ODI World Cup. He has a terrific record at the championship event, scoring 474 runs in eight matches at an average of 67.71. He slammed a century against New Zealand at the 2019 World Cup.
Over the years, Babar Azam has been a pillar in Pakistan’s batting attack. He has also been in good form this year. In 16 matches, he has scored 745 runs at an average of 49.66 this year, including two centuries. He will be leading Pakistan at the upcoming World Cup, beginning their campaign on Friday, October 6 in Hyderabad against the Netherlands.
