Experienced wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim made a catch that could be considered the best catch of the entire 2023 ODI World Cup in Bangladesh’s current match against Sri Lanka at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
Mushfiqur stretched out fully to his non-dominant left side, even though a first slip fielder was in place, to catch a nicked ball from the left-handed batsman Kusal Perera, off Shoriful Islam’s delivery.
His dive was perfectly timed, he caught the ball cleanly with his left hand, and he finished the catch with graceful movements. Watch Rahim’s incredible catch in this video:

Kusal Perera, who returned to the lineup, replacing Dimuth Karunaratne, couldn’t capitalize on his chance. He managed to score a boundary just before getting out in the opening over of the match.
Perera was dismissed after contributing four runs from five deliveries. On the other hand, Shoriful Islam is having a successful tournament, with eight wickets from as many matches and an economy rate of 6.48.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are competing for a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy
Although both teams from the subcontinent are not in the running for a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-finals, the current match is not a meaningless encounter.
Both teams are still in the running to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy, depending on their final standings in the World Cup points table.
Sri Lanka has made some progress in the ongoing match, with their captain Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka currently batting. At the moment, their score is 18-1 after four overs.
Sri Lanka has won two matches and is in seventh place on the points table. Bangladesh has won only one of their seven matches. In their next games, Sri Lanka will play against New Zealand, and Bangladesh will face Australia.
