Pakistan’s fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali engaged in intense net practice ahead of a crucial 2023 World Cup match against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 11.

They were observed putting in extra effort in their bowling sessions following a disappointing performance against New Zealand.

For those not aware, in the previous match against New Zealand, Afridi went wicketless while conceding 90 runs, and Hasan Ali gave away 82 runs for just one wicket. Haris Rauf, who didn’t bowl during the practice, also conceded 85 runs for a single wicket as New Zealand reached a total of 401/6.

In the significant ICC tournament, Afridi has taken 16 wickets in eight matches with an economy rate of 5.76, while Rauf has claimed 13 wickets in eight games with an economy rate of 6.79. Ali, on the other hand, has secured nine wickets in six matches with an economy rate of 6.29.

Rauf is dealing with a rib injury, and both Afridi and Ali aim to perform better in their bowling against defending champions England, who are eager to secure a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Wasim Jr., who had an impressive performance with figures of 3/60 against New Zealand, was observed refining his bowling skills during net practice.

The 22-year-old has already taken eight wickets in just three games and hopes to maintain his good form against England.

Pakistan is currently in the fifth position on the 2023 World Cup points table

In the 2023 World Cup points table, Pakistan currently holds the fifth position with eight points from four wins in eight matches. Babar Azam and the team have the potential to attain a maximum of 10 points after completing nine league games.

Their qualification is also dependent on the outcomes of Afghanistan and New Zealand, whom they defeated by 21 runs through the DLS method. Meanwhile, England is entering the match following a significant 160-run victory over the Netherlands.

The Net Run Rate (NRR) will become a decisive factor in determining a spot in the semifinals should Afghanistan or the New Zealand cricket team emerge victorious in their final league game of the 50-over tournament.
